Counselling & Support

Watering the garden

 The first session

An intentional meeting first session is designed to be welcoming, safe and practical. It typically includes introductions, an explanation of confidentiality and how sessions work, a brief intake of your background and current concerns. This meeting is about building trust and getting a clear picture of what you want from counselling , not about solving everything at once.

Second session: action planning & tracking progress

By the second session we usually move from exploration to planning. Together you and your counsellor will write a simple, collaborative action plan that outlines key goals, small practical steps you might try between sessions, and measurable ways to track progress (for example mood tracking, behaviour goals, or practical check-ins). This stage often draws on evidence based planning methods and clinical templates so progress is clear and the work feels purposeful. You’ll also agree how and when you’ll review progress , regular check ins help make sure therapy stays useful and responsive to your needs

Ongoing sessions: working on what matters to you

After goals are set and early progress is tracked, subsequent sessions focus on the areas you most want to explore , whether that’s skills

(like managing anxiety), processing past experiences, building relationships, or preparing for life changes.

The work is collaborative: your counsellor brings clinical tools and structure, and you bring the priorities. Sessions may include tailored therapeutic approaches, practical skills coaching, problem solving, and reviewing what’s working. If relevant, we’ll also discuss placements, referrals, or other supports in line with professional and ethical standards.
